The activities of the mayor, the city staff and the city council are financially destroying the older people living on Social Security checks and maybe a small military pension. These are the people who fought for this country and watched as friends and relatives died in front of their eyes. What's happening here is not what these people fought and died for. The people in Cape Coral appear to have one or two council members who are working for the benefit of the people while the rest appear to work against us. We used to talk of the Great American Dream, but in Cape Coral that has morphed into the Great American Nightmare. Four single family homes on a one acre site will pay $88,000 in assessments or $22,000 each. Sixteen condominium units on that same one acre site will pay $5,500 each. The benefit to each condo unit is the same benefit as the benefit to a single family home. If every one was paying equal according to hookup and benefit received, the cost to the single family home would come down considerably. City officials have helped the development community make lots of money on the backs of the taxpayers here in Cape Coral. We are paying tremendous amounts of money to pay for the utility projects which provides a greater benefit to the developers than to the home owners. If the developers want sewer and water let them pay for it. The onsite waste water facilities are working fine for single family homes. There is no documentation that says otherwise. If onsite doesn't work for large condominium complexes, that should be something the developers need to finance themselves. If they don't want to pay for it then let them get out of the condominium business. If they create the problem let them pay to fix it. John Sullivan Cape Coral
