How could you let our police officers, fire fighters and E.M.T personnel work in a building laden with mold, leaky pipes and the stench of urine ? Is this how our mayor and city council regard the welfare of Cape Coral’s Best ? I hope not. I suspect it will take another two years to get Cape Coral’s Best into a new building. In the meantime they will have to work within the ghetto like, health threatening conditions that exist in the old building. Was this a strategy initiated in order to stop any public out cry to the $110 million dollar monument they are building ? I hope it wasn’t a ploy because if it is, this would be a new low. I guess we’re not supposed to say anything about the cost of this building because it would indicate we don’t care about our most important city personnel, well that just isn’t the case. Does the $110 million dollars show the high regard our mayor and council have for our police officers and fire fighters ? I don’t think it does. What it does indicate is how reckless and irresponsible they are when it comes to spending public funds. What will the real cost to the people be after financing ? At 20 years financing would that not double the cost. I’m sure Cape Coral’s best would rather have something that meets their needs and will allow them to do their jobs and not some elaborate structure that will be a burden the taxpayers. These folks are dedicated and responsible people unfortunately I can’t say the same for some of our elected officials and this administration because of their reckless spending habits and irresponsible activities. Their refusal to take on the responsibility of their offices and the administrations steadfast refusal to do what they are getting paid for not only effects residents like myself but also Cape Coral’s Finest as well. Haven’t they done enough damage with the utilities projects ? Do they have to do more by plunging the people here into an additional $110 million in debt ? That’s more than enough to pay for the entire SW-4 project. They say 7.08 per month for a $200,000.00 home. That comes out to roughly $1,700.00 for each property without considering interest expense. It has been published that the city will outgrow the building in 2025. This is 2007 and if it takes 2 years to get built and moved in then you are talking about a life expectancy of 16 years for a public safety building or almost 7 million a year. If our public officials were really so concerned about Cape Coral’s Best and the rest of the residents they would deliver this building and the utilities at a much lesser cost, instead they have this ingenious plan to build an over blown monument and at the same time deliver the most expensive utilities project in The State of Florida, which in a short time will also have the highest monthly utility fees in The State of Florida and possibly the entire U.
